January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement.  He was a pastor and an humanitarian who inspired non violent social changes.

Big Week for First Graders!

During library, first grade has been discussing picking books that are "just right" for them.  This week first graders are practicing skills that help them find books that fit their purposes, interests, and understanding.  Plus, they now are able to check out three books a week!

The Caldecott Medal is given to one book every year that has "the most distinguished" artwork. This artwork is special and has something different about it. Let's take a look at some past winners and talk about different types of art and why this artwork makes the story even better!
